Environmental Manager

Position Summary:

 

We are seeking a knowledgeable, proactive, and experienced Environmental Manager to lead the environmental compliance and sustainability efforts at our major chemical manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for ensuring full compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations (e.g., EPA, RCRA, CAA, CWA, TSCA), as well as internal corporate standards. The Environmental Manager will develop, implement, and oversee all environmental programs, permits, and reporting systems while serving as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations, including but not limited to RCRA, CAA, CWA, TSCA, EPCRA, CERCLA, SPCC, and local environmental ordinances.
  • Manage site-wide environmental programs including air, water, stormwater, waste, and hazardous materials management.
  • Maintain and update all environmental permits (e.g., Title V air permits, NPDES, stormwater, wastewater discharge).
  • Lead environmental reporting including, but not limited to:
    • TRI (Toxics Release Inventory)
    • Tier II Chemical Inventory Reporting
    • Hazardous Waste Manifests & Biennial Reporting
    • Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Reporting
  • Serve as the primary contact during environmental inspections, audits, and regulatory agency interactions (e.g., EPA, state environmental departments).
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives for environmental performance, pollution prevention, and sustainability goals.
  • Develop and deliver environmental training to employees, contractors, and management.
  • Conduct environmental risk assessments, spill response planning, and root cause analyses of incidents.
  • Maintain and improve the site’s environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, and maintenance to ensure environmental compliance is built into projects and daily activities.
  • Prepare and manage the environmental budget and cost control measures.
  • Monitor and interpret environmental regulations for relevance and impact to the facility.

 

Qualifications:

 

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 10  years of experience in environmental compliance in a chemical or industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of EPA and state environmental regulations.
  • Experience managing Title V air permits and hazardous waste programs.
  • Demonstrated success in leading agency inspections and audits.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

 

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., CHMM, QEP, PE).
  • Experience with ISO 14001 EMS implementation and management.
  • Experience with process safety, ESG reporting, and sustainability programs.

 

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • This position requires periodic field work, including entry into process areas, hazardous waste storage areas, and tank farms.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and participate in emergency response drills.
  • Occasional travel may be required to corporate or regulatory meetings.
