Morning News Anchor
WDAF-TV FOX4 in Kansas City is seeking a Morning News Anchor. The News Anchor serves as the primary presenter of news stories and other content for all platforms in a manner that is clear, engaging and meaningful to news consumers. This anchor position contributes to our morning ensemble, supporting lead anchors and enhancing our newscasts’ ensemble approach.
- Presents news stories and content for all platforms – broadcast TV, digital and streaming shows.
- Writes news stories and produces segments in a clear and concise manner for multiple platforms.
- Responds to breaking news and other urgent newsrooms situations as required.
- Ensures all news content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
- Contributes to a collaborative environment with co-anchors and behind-the-scenes staff to create inviting, ensemble energy for viewers.
- Assists with idea generation, research and coordination of segments.
- Builds network of sources who supply information that allows Station to stay ahead of its competitors.
- Conducts interviews with newsmakers and guests.
- Acts as a field reporter as assigned.
- Participates in promotional activities including public appearances.
- Collaborates on special projects and other duties as assigned
Requirements & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
- Fluency in English.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required.
- Minimum five years’ experience in news reporting or anchoring.
- Demonstrated superior on-air presence and command of subject matter.
- Excellent news judgment with an expansive knowledge of local and national current events, history, newsmakers and issues.
- Experience guiding, directing and motivating others.
- Ability to identify the developmental needs of others and to coach, mentor or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to effectively listen to fully understand problems and communicate with a team to shape a solution.
- Proficiency with computers, editing and logging software to prepare stories.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Flexibility to work any shift.
