This position supports Free Arts by providing leadership and management of Free Arts programs and strategic volunteer engagement. The Program Director leads local and expansion programs and related services/activities; implements effective programs to best serve program participants; builds a culture of resilience and well-being; helps to promote and diversify funding through effective resource stewardship; provides mentoring, guidance, supervision, and professional development to staff; and enhances the structure of Free Arts by staying current with trends in child development and service modalities. This position is key to establishing and stewarding program partnerships within and beyond Maricopa County. This position collaborates with the board, senior leadership, and across departments, contributing insights that aid overall organizational performance for achieving the strategic vision for programs.

Starting Salary: $68,000  

Location: Maricopa County-based, with 40% travel to Pima County and surrounding areas

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in youth development, child welfare, education, or commensurate experience, and 3 years’ experience managing teams.  
  • Demonstrated success leading the development, implementation, assessment, and improvement of program services.  
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, manage, coach, motivate, and ensure ongoing professional development of a high-performing staff.  
  • Strong organizational and inspiring leadership skills.  
  • Demonstrated experience managing a high-performing team in a multicultural structure to include professional development and mentorship.  
  • Demonstrated commitment to the values of diversity, inclusiveness, and equity.  
  • Ability to use Microsoft applications at a high-functioning level.  
  • Must be able to have access to and provide reliable transportation for oneself. An AZ driver’s license and proof of insurance are required for qualifying mileage reimbursements.  
  • Must be able to obtain and hold an Arizona Department of Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card.  
  • This person frequently interacts with staff, board members, funders, and constituents about the programs and services of Free Arts at an executive level. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.  

 

Preferred Qualifications  

The following qualities and experience, in addition to the years of experience, are highly desirable:  

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.  
  • Background in program evaluation and project, and quality management.  
  • Ability to read and write in Spanish.  
  • Experience with CRM software (Salesforce ideal).  

 

Physical Requirements 

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time using a computer. 
  • Must be able to identify and assess written materials including fine print. 
  • Must be able to position self to maintain files, supplies, document boxes, and other materials up to 10 pounds as needed. 

 

Environmental Requirements 

  • Must be able to regularly work in a well-lit, temperature-controlled work area. 
  • Must be able to work a mix of weekdays and weekends if needed. 
  • Must be able to work in an open area with other employees and volunteers 80% of the time. 
  • Must be able to travel 40% of the time throughout Maricopa, Pima, and surrounding Counties.
