Senior Civic Leader

Position Title: Senior Civic Leader

Semester/Year: 2025-2026

Total Positions Available: 1

Supervisor: Katie Flowers

Pay rate: $15.50/hr

Hours per Week: 2-4 

Start Date: August 1, 2025

End Date: May 5, 2026

 

The Senior Civic Leader will serve as liaison to harness alignment opportunities between Center for Community Engagement & Service Learning and the Centennial Center for Leadership.

 

Position Description:

  • Hold meetings with the CCESL Civic Leaders for the purpose of:
    • Sharing ideas about recruitment/retention/assessment
    • Seeking advice/having open discussions with other Civic Leaders about their respective programs
    • making connections between students and programs and community 
  • Weekly or bi-weekly check-ins with a member of the CCESL professional staff for the purpose of:
    • Developing goals and service opportunity ideas for the upcoming weeks
    • Touching base on the current state of service projects/any concerns of other Civic Leaders
  • Support, Co-host, promote CCESL/CCL Sponsored Events Throughout the Year
  • Create a set of personal goals to work toward throughout the year
  • Foster collaboration between CCESL and the Centennial Center by identifying shared opportunities in leadership development and civic responsibility
  • Help cross-promote events and encourage student participation in both centers' offerings, aligning co-curricular leadership and service opportunities across campus.
  • Assist with the oversight and implementation of the Philanthropy and Social Impact course, including:
    • Coordinating logistics and communication with grantees and student teams.
    • Supporting outreach and publicity related to community grants and public presentations.
    • Documenting program outcomes and assessing community impact in collaboration with faculty and staff.
    • Explore interest and capacity of a non-profit certificate Nonprofit Management Students - Nonprofit Leadership Alliance 

 

Qualifications:

  • The Senior Civic Leader will be a full time student at Hobart and William Smith Colleges who has had at least two experiences in a community engagement and/or leadership opportunity, including (but not limited to) a service-learning course, Service POAP trip, Summer of Service internship, at least two semesters with HWS Tutor Corps, participation in an Alternative Spring Break trip, or residency in a civic engagement theme house, etc. 
  • Candidates will need to be excellent at managing their time and be prompt for every meeting. 
  • Candidates must be dependable, as this job involves working with community partners.
  • Candidates must be patient, helpful, and sensitive to the challenges the community faces and help to find creative solutions to the struggles or problems.
  • Candidates must be able to keep a positive attitude and are encouraged to demonstrate leadership and initiative. 
  • Candidates must demonstrate effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Bilingual HWS students are encouraged to apply
