Senior Rail Operations Control Analyst

Summary:

Responsible for analyzing financial data, assisting in developing and maintaining budgets. Participates in all Position Control functions. Assists in developing financial reports, forecast financial trends, and identify cost-saving opportunities within Rail Operations.

 

 

  • Roles and Responsibilities: Reviews and analyzes weekly and monthly budget and financial reports to track trends and provide recommendations.
  • Prepares summaries of quantitative and statistical data in budget forms, schedules and reports using appropriate software (GL Transactions).
  • Participate in Rail Position Control Functions (creating, editing, and requisitioning Non-Agreement Positions).
  • Maintains budget manning levels with usage of the Human Resource Management System for variance analysis and approval/disapproval of employment requisitions.
  • Monitors and reviews monthly operating results, analyzes monthly progress against budget for accuracy and validity. Interfaces with other departments and General Ledger System to address outstanding variances. Collaborate with the General Accounting Department to review and ensure correct postings.
  • Analyzes trends and maintains long-range financial and operation plans for production.
  • Assists in preparing vacancy, unassigned report, and monthly Force Inventory Report for utilization by field supervision as a means to remain within their budgeted headcount.
  • Knowledge and Skills
  • Accounting Principles and Practices: A solid understanding of accounting standards and procedures is fundamental. 
  • Financial Concepts: Understanding of financial statements, variance analysis.
  • Enterprise Resource Planning Software: Knowledge of ERP software that manages a company's resources, including its financials, operations, reporting, and human resources.
  • Communication: Presenting and discussing financial and headcount information clearly and concisely to various stakeholders.
  • Collaboration: Working effectively with teams and other departments.
  • Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving: Problem-solving skills to create possible solutions to problems.

 

  • Education, Experience, and Qualifications:Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related area from a US Department of Education accredited college or university, and two years of administrative and analytical experience with an emphasis on budget preparation and analysis.
  • Advanced degrees may be substituted for two (2) years’ experience.
  • Related experience with Oracle, Access, and Excel software applications desired.
