Job Summary:
The Simulation Operations Specialist (SOS) plans and executes all operational and technical aspects of simulated learning activities, simulation-based education, and scenario-based training for the HealthForce Kentucky mobile simulation lab, innovation center, and educational partners. The SOS develops operational and technical proficiency with all aspects of the operation, maintenance, support, troubleshooting, implementation, hardware/software updates, and repair of all system simulation labs’ inventory, such as the human patient simulator systems, simulation task trainers, associated medical equipment, and computer/audiovisual systems. Position is grant funded and continuation is contingent upon future funding.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
The duties / responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Collaborate with the HealthForce Kentucky team and educational partners to support all technical aspects of the simulation before, during and after the simulation exercise/course/scenario. Including direct interaction with the participants, accommodates appropriate adjustments to the scenario, and technical responses of simulator based on planning, participant feedback, and actions.
- Prepare, program, clean, and operate all human patient simulator systems, simulation task trainers, associated medical equipment and computer/audiovisual equipment before, during and after the training exercises.
- Support the management and maintenance of all equipment, including simulators and computer/audiovisual, to ensure proper working order, appropriate maintenance, warranty support, and software updates.
- Ensure simulations/events are fully immersive through proper planning, room orientation, environment realism, faculty orietnation and support, application of medical moulage and simulated medical conditions to human patient simulators, and/or standardized patients/role players. This includes collaborating with the HealthForce Kentucky team to create curricular anatomy models.
- Maintain accurate inventory and organized storage of equipment (simulators, hardware, and software) and supplies.
- Transport equipment to various HealthForce Kentucky partners in Western Kentucky for simulation training purposes.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Skilled in or the ability to learn how to use databases and simulation equipment.
- Frequent travel is possible, up to 90% of the time, and may require occasional overnight stays. Transportation and accommodations are provided or compensated.
- Work may be required outside of usual working hours.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, carry up to 50 pounds.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate degree in healthcare field or computer information with four (4) years of relevant work experience or equivalent is required.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
- Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) is preferred.
- Prior healthcare experience is preferred.
