Lindy Farms is a family-owned and operated farm based in Somers, CT.  For the last 50 years, Lindy has been dedicated to the principles and standards of Thoroughbred and Standardbred horse breeding/training/racing.  Lindy Farms is committed to maintaining the highest are, maintenance and health for the farm’s horses and facilities.

 

Position Summary:

            The veterinarian is responsible for the primary medical care of horses and other farm animals, which includes routine check-ups, diagnosing and treating illnesses and injuries, performing surgical procedures, and providing preventative care. This position is also responsible for administering vaccinations and overseeing the birthing process of the horses.

 

Your Role:

  • Conduct physical exams to assess overall health, identify potential issues, and recommend appropriate treatments
  • Diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions, including injuries, illnesses, and infectious diseases
  • Perform both routine surgeries and complex procedures
  • Implement vaccination schedules, routine health check-ups, monitor vital signs, and provide advice on nutrition, exercise, and other preventative measures
  • Utilize different equipment, X-rays, ultrasounds, and blood work for diagnosis
  • Prescribing medications when necessary
  • Perform routine dental exams, addressing dental needs, and provide treatment as necessary
  • Day and overnight trips to other farms and training when necessary
  • Maintain reasonable, regular, and punctual attendance consistent with Company policies, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Adapts to changing duties, as required, based on business needs.

  • Horse handling and nursing skills
  • Physical ability and stamina to handle large animals.
  • Multi-tasking abilities
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle emergencies

 

 

 

Desirable requirements:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine
  • Veterinary license to practice
  • Knowledge of equine anatomy, physiology, and common medical conditions
  • Strong diagnostic, surgical, and communication skills
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Have a good attitude and participate as a member of the team.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
