Digitalization Co-Op/Intern

SSAB’s Co-op/Intern program gives students the opportunity to gain valuable industry experience in a hands-on work environment. SSAB co-ops work with various functional areas within the company to make valuable contributions to projects, improve steel-making practices, and develop new products in state-of-the-art facilities. Co-ops develop strong organizational, operational, technical, and critical thinking skills through a variety of meaningful assignments.

Openings:

  • Fall 2025, Spring, Summer and/or Fall 2026

Schedules Available:  

  • 3 alternating semesters or back-to-back + 1
  • 2 alternating semesters or back-to-back
  • Summer internship

Digitalization Co-Op/Intern

The Digitalization Co-Op/Intern supports SSAB’s data engineers and scientists while gaining valuable, real-world experience in a heavy manufacturing environment. 

What you will do

  • Become familiar with an industrial work environment and the types of digitalization tools used in manufacturing
  • Learn how to solve real-world problems with data
  • Work on projects to deliver solutions to operations
  • Assignments will vary depending on demand and skill level to ensure development of the necessary skills for succeeding in an industrial context
  • Learn about various topics such as industrial safety, lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, quality, and project management
  • Participate in professional development activities
  • Create a report that summarizes accomplishments made during the term

Required Qualifications

  • Working on a BS or MS in Data Science, Computer Science, or closely-related technical discipline 
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Strong computer skills and some knowledge of data structures
  • Strong interest in machine learning and AI in a practical context
  • Strong analytical capability and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills
