Maternal Fetal Medicine Sonographer

This position is in the Center for Maternal-Fetal Medicine. A very busy, high acuity unit providing quality care as an outpatient unit as well as caring for in-patients.

 

Job Description:

Job Summary: The Perinatology Ultrasonographer III is responsible for performing a wide range of Ultrasound procedures including obstetrical, gynecological, doppler studies and invasive procedures. This person interacts daily with patients and other medical personnel.

Essential Responsibilities:

 

Selects appropriate equipment and transducers for tests as ordered. Consults with patients, obtains necessary information, explains procedures, allays apprehensions and positions patient appropriately. Assists physicians during sterile invasive procedures, i.e. amniocentesis, etc.

Imports data and images in the ultrasound reporting package and PACS, and provides images on film and paper when needed. Detects pathology/other factors (f/u, change of shape, echogenicity, etc.). Determines images appropriate for diagnostic purpose.

Assists other divisions during procedures. Performs functions in areas outside the Ultrasound Suite, including the Operating room, Intensive Care Units, L&D, Antepartum and Triage Unit, using portable ultrasound equipment.

Participates in education of physician trainees; OB/GYN residents, MFM fellows and student sonographers. Monitors and documents progress of trainees. Contributes in orientation for new sonographers and serves as a team resource for technical information, application support, training and guidance.

Participates in developing new training tools or models to improve efficiency of the department and improve patient care and satisfaction.

Performs routine clerical duties; reviews daily clinic schedules; monitors urgent add ons and inpatient orders. Reviews patient charts and maternal serum screening results, tracks inventory supplies, keeps work area clean, empties laundry, and stocks rooms at the end of each shift.

EPR system. Appropriate HLD of Ultrasound transducers is necessary for patient protection and infection control. Employees are trained initially and then an annual refresher is completed.

Participates in staff educational in-house presentations of research and projects for monthly lunch and learn sessions. Makes contributions and participates in the publishing of articles for MFM Ultrasound literature

Required Qualifications:

Vocational or Technical training in Diagnostic Medical Sonography required. Associate's degree in Ultrasound preferred.

Certificate 1 Reg Diagnostic Med Sonographer required., and Certificate 2 Basic Life Support required.

3-5 years related work experience required in MFM or had clinical training in high risk OB.

NT Certification required. New staff will have 30 days to complete certification.

Certificate in Basic Life Support required. New hires will have 30 days to provide BLS certification through the American Heart Association.

Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
