Casa Carlini is a fiscally sponsored, mission-driven independent publisher through Fractured Atlas, based in NYC, and dedicated to amplifying literature through digital innovation. Bring stories to life through design! We’re seeking a creative graphic design intern passionate about books and visual storytelling to craft compelling covers that capture readers’ imaginations for print and digital formats.

What You’ll Do

This unpaid educational internship follows U.S. Department of Labor FLSA guidelines, prioritizing your learning as the primary beneficiary with hands-on training tied to your formal education (academic credit required).

  • Design 4–6 eye-catching book covers (front/back/spine), translating story themes into visual concepts via collaboration with authors/editorial team.
  • Receive structured training in publishing specs (bleed, DPI, typography for Amazon/IngramSpark) with iterative feedback like classroom critiques.
  • Prepare files for print/digital, assist with promotional graphics for social media, and research design trends; work complements our team under close supervision.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a graphic design/visual arts program; must be able to receive academic credit.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Suite (Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign) or equivalents; Mac OS preferred; strong portfolio with typography/layout/color samples.
  • Passion for books, eye for visual hierarchy, open to feedback, deadline-driven for remote Zoom/Trello work.

What We Offer

  • Portfolio-ready projects credited on casacarlini.com, retailers, and published books.
  • Stipend-eligible via school programs (e.g., Barnard BBIP, Duke Funding, CUNY Magner)—include details in applications.
  • Mentorship from publishing pros, free books, references; flexible remote hours in a book-loving team. No paid role entitlement post-internship.

How to Apply: Email resume, portfolio link (3–5 samples), and a brief note on your favorite book cover to jobs@casacarlini.com. Subject: “Book Cover Design Intern – [Your School/Program]”. Rolling review; start May/June 2026. For full details: https://casacarlini.com/internships/
