HVAC Refrigeration Technician III (AX1789)
Education High School Diploma / GED
Months/Years of Experience: Five (5) years of applicable experience supporting engineering or testing of hardware in the appropriate area of specialization; or two (2) years of applicable
college/vocational/military/technical school and three (3) years of applicable experience in the assigned specialty area; and the following additional requirements: Environmental Systems Technician – Must possess EPA approved certification in proper refrigerant usage to include freon recovery units.
Required Qualifications: Must be a U.S. Citizen and have or be able to obtain a DoD security clearance.
Duties: Perform maintenance and repair operations for Climatic and Dynamic Test Facilities,
including preventive maintenance scheduling and servicing of environmental test chambers.
Install, modify, and repair HVAC systems (hermetic, semi-hermetic, screw, scroll, centrifugal up
to 1100 tons), ventilation, reverse osmosis, process coolers, air compressors, cascade systems,
and control systems. Maintain and repair lab systems (fume hoods, vacuum, gas lines, pumps,
deionized water, etc.). Read and interpret scientific instruments, plans, and manuals.
Communicate clearly in writing and verbally. Understand and apply regulations including the
National Electrical Code. Work around explosives; must have or be able to obtain Ammunition
and Explosives Certification. Lift heavy loads and work extended hours with little notice.
