This position is an intermediate level position with land surveying and mapping experience to support the District’s Right of Way program. 

Duties include the review of land title and survey documents such as plats, boundary surveys, topographic surveys, special purpose surveys, and sketch and legal descriptions; the preparation of various surveying documents; direct interaction with residents, community associations, real estate and title professionals,  governmental agencies and professional consultants regarding the District’s policies as they relate to survey and right-of-way data.  The position requires both field and office work. 

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Right of Way Interest Supervisor.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Performs research on, and prepares and reviews sketch and legal descriptions for documents prepared in the sale and/or exchange of lands
  • Performs chain of title research as required and performs related coordination and correspondence
  • Reviews survey data and right of way information in permit applications submitted to the District
  • Generates maps and survey documents in AutoCAD and/or Geographic Information Systems (GIS) identifying District ownership/interest
  • Operates survey grade GPS systems and data collectors in the field to locate corners and determine boundary lines to stake canal right of way lines and project boundaries
  • Prepares survey related materials and presentations for the Board of Supervisors
  • Prepares AutoCAD drawings, maps, and exhibits
  • Attends meetings with professional consultants and governmental agencies regarding the District’s right-of- way and survey requirements
  • Provides quality control support for District’s GIS mapping project
  • Due to the District’s emergency response role, the position may require support before, during, and after major storm events and emergency situations
  • Perform related work as  required

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient understanding of the State of Florida and survey procedures and regulations 
  • Proficient in the usage and limitations of GPS systems
  • Proficient in the application and production of surveying documents in AutoCAD
  • Thorough understanding of GIS usage and limitations
  • Proficient in the drafting of surveying documents and sketch and legal descriptions
  • Proficient in conducting detailed research and the development of a chain of title
  • Ability to communicate ideas effectively, orally and in writing with co-workers, residents, governmental agencies, and professional consultants
  • Knowledge of southeastern Palm Beach County geography preferred
  • Knowledgeable with office and field applications such as Microsoft Office, AutoDesk Civil 3D, ESRI ArcMap, Trimble, and Topcon field applications and various databases

 

Education and Experience:

  • Four-year degree from an accredited College or University or a minimum of five (5) years of experience in surveying and/or mapping technology disciplines

Licenses:

  • Valid Florida Drivers’ license
  • Licensed Professional Surveyor and Mapper preferred
