About This Position
The League of American Bicyclists’ Federal Policy Fellowship program is a one-year term, full-time position. Our goal is that upon finishing the year, the fellow will graduate from the program with experience advocating for bicycling as a transportation issue to Congress and the Administration, and with knowledge of and connections in the national bicycling community, and transportation advocacy communities.
Who We are Looking For
The League is looking for an early career advocate interested in transportation and infrastructure policies and how such politics affect bicycling issues. As a Fellow, you will be supporting our Policy Team through researching both qualitative and quantitative data, working with state and local advocacy organizations, and being a voice on Capitol Hill for cyclists across America. Specific issue areas will be approached through a bipartisan lens and span transportation and infrastructure policy and its relationship to active transportation, public health, ADA compliance laws, and vehicle safety standards.
The Fellow will be based in Washington, DC, with a flexible work-from-home schedule and at least one in-office day per week. Other days may require the Fellow to attend meetings in the region and on Capitol Hill. This position works most closely with and under the direction of the Deputy Executive Director in support of the advocacy and policy team.
Responsibilities:
- Supporting the Deputy Executive Director with emerging legislation or policy decisions regarding active transportation initiatives.
- Researching and compiling data about congressional bills, grants and administrative actions regarding active transportation or physical activity and health.
- Tracking reauthorization priorities for Members of Congress, the administration, and partner advocacy groups.
- Coordinating and participating in lobby day visits for the National Bike Summit.
- Scheduling, preparing leave-behinds for, and occasionally participating in lobbying visits throughout the year.
- Analyzing legislation and translating governmental policies for the general public in the form of fact sheets, action alerts, or blog posts.
- Helping to plan webinars at various points throughout the fellowship.
- Supporting staff through the National Bike Summit process, including organizing at least one session.
Qualifications:
- Ability to convey complex ideas clearly and tailor information for broad audiences.
- Comfortable working with and communicating with people of all ages, cultural groups, abilities, socioeconomic backgrounds, gender identity, or party affiliation.
- Strong verbal, writing, and organizational skills.
- Experience with Google Workspace, including Google Sheets, and Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Willingness to work on a bipartisan basis.
- Enthusiasm for active transportation and the mission of the League.
- Experience in advocacy is a plus.
- It is required that the Fellow attend and support the three day National Bike Summit during March 24-26, 2026, located in Washington, DC.
Hours: Full-time (40 hours/week), limited-term (one year)
Location: Washington, DC. It is a hybrid job with 20-50% of your time each week spent in the office or on Capitol Hill.
Compensation: $50,000/one-year,
