Job Summary:

 

The Office of Budget and Resource Planning is seeking a Financial Analyst. This is a part-time (0.75 FTE ), 12-month, professional faculty position.


 

This is a position will augment staffing during the Administrative Modernization Program (AMP ), Workday and Adaptive Planning process. This will allow for a current staff member to shift their focus to AMP related responsibilities while their responsibilities are back-filled by this position.This position is anticipated to last through September 30, 2026.

 

Oregon State University is a comprehensive research university and the state’s Land, Sea, Sun, and Space Grant University. The Office of Budget and Resource Planning develops and implements policies and procedures to help ensure the efficacy and integrity of resource allocations, budget planning and resource management of the University. The office reports to the President through the Vice President for Finance and Administration and is responsible for all-funds budget operations (exceeding $1.4 billion) including institutional responsibility for all revenue planning activities, preparation and control of annual and biennial budgets for the University, its instructional and research divisions, statewide public service units, and auxiliary enterprises.

This position is responsible for report creation, various reconciliations, fund settle-up, updating Budget and Resource planning metrics, and distribution of overhead research dollars to units. Successful employees in this position will have familiarity with how data systems support and drive financial decisions.

Key Responsibilities

 

PRIMARY POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES : 55% – REPORTING

 

• Develop and prepare financial reports, statements and variance information for review and distribution on a regular basis.

• Compile financial data into comprehensive formats, such as charts and graphs, for the conveyance of information.

• Research, analyze and prepare statistical data reports in support of overall university management.

• Perform quantitative analyses, forecasting, cost analysis and reporting to support institutional planning.

• Analyze and provide data and reports in support of budget processes.

• Assist with data extraction and analysis for ad hoc requests, including quarterly financial projections, institutional management monitoring, and Indirect Cost monitoring.

 

30% – SPECIAL PROJECTS

 

• Compilation of data for special projects, statistical analyses and management of institutional resources on an ad hoc basis.

• Coordinate and process budget changes, including cross-unit allocations and institutional commitments.

• Conduct reconciliations such as Indirect Cost Settle-up calculations, year end balance reviews for Education & General funds.

• Contribute to the development and documentation of new business processes related to Adaptive Planning and Workday implementations.

• Assist with INTO -OSU quarterly calculations and ad hoc queries.

• Supports Budget Operations Manager by working to resolve budget issues for campus budget and finance partners and in the daily management of the university budget operations.

 

15% – OTHER

 

• Respond to inquiries and provide support on budget operation processes.

• Perform other duties as appropriate and needed within the scope and responsibility of the position.

 

What You Will Need

 

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or a related field.

• Five years’ experience in accounting, finance, business administration or a related field and a minimum of three years’ experience of operating budget experience for a complex organization.

• Demonstrable ability to pull data, analyze and provide recommendations for financial decisions.

• Experience working with databases and large amounts of data in applications such as Microsoft or Tableau.

• Experience preparing forecasts, trend analysis and reports.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Strong ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

• Effective collaboration and relationship building ability.

What We Would Like You to Have


 

• Experience working at a large public university or at a similarly complex organization.

• Experience with fund accounting methods for organizing and maintaining organizational finances.

• Experience with Ellucian/Banner Finance, Student and Human Resource system.
