Part-Time Criminal Defense Legal Secretary/Administrative Assistant

Fast-paced criminal defense firm seeking an experienced, hard-working criminal defense legal secretary/assistant for 3 attorneys in our Dublin office. This person will be responsible for handling a heavy document workload, including state and federal appeals, e- filing, federal ECF filing, composing TOAs and TOCs, formatting, editing, preparing and filing documents, some of which will be lengthy, detailed and complex. Must have advanced level typing and computer skills.Ideal candidate will have meaningful criminal defenseexperience, as well as experience with Word, Clio Manage, Office 365, Outlook, trial preparation, trial notebooks, subpoena preparation, and working with criminal defense investigators.

 

Prior significant law firm legalsecretarial experience REQUIRED. 

MAIN TASKS-LEGAL/SECRETARIAL:

  • Assist attorneys with formatting, editing, preparing and filing state and federal appeals with voluminous exhibits, preparing correspondence, memoranda, subpoenas, discovery, pleadings and other legal documents from written and/or oral drafts and filing in the appropriate method required in a timely manner, and follow-ups as needed.
  • Maintain case calendaring and deadline remindersystems; utilizing master calendar system, updating and monitoring attorney(s) calendars on an ongoing basis.

 

  • Properly and timelytrack and maintainfile systems in both both physical and electronic format.

 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • The ideal candidate will be reliable, trustworthy and proactive, communicate well, have a positive attitude and be a true team player.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate in person, by telephone and email, and follow instructions effectively from other staffand provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact, with attention to detail, and a high degree of self-directed initiative and organization.
  • Ability to multi-task with multiple assignments and complete in a timelyfashion; calendar and identify deadlines appropriately.

 

  • Proficiency in, and ability to use, standard office equipment, including multi-line telephones, personal computer, standard Microsoft Office applications, photocopy machine, postage machine and scanner.

 

  • Ability to read, write, proofread and perform editing(e.g., punctuation, grammar, spelling, California style of legalcitation, proper formatting for a varietyof legal documents).

 

  • Ability to work part-time for 20-25 hours per week to perform the essential dutiesof the position; ability to accommodate irregular hours.

 

We offer a competitive hourly wage between $50 - $70 per hour depending on level of experience.
