History Colorado Center School Programs Internship

Internship Title: History Colorado Center School Programs Internship

Internship Location:  History Colorado Center, Denver, CO

Stipend:  Intern will receive a stipend of $4,000.  The stipend is not salary or compensation.  The stipend is meant to support study and research during the tenure of the appointment and will be issued in (4) installments. 

Qualified candidates may receive academic credit through their college or university. *Check with your school's Internship Coordinator BEFORE accepting the hiring offer to determine if this position satisfies the criteria for receiving academic credit.

Desired Schedule: 10 hours/week (Monday-Friday) October 1st, 2025 through the end of May 2026 (specific dates and times TBD by intern and supervisor).

Broad Scope of Position:  This internship provides selected candidates the opportunity to share their passion for history with students in a museum setting and engage with diverse student learners from all over Colorado and beyond. This internship also provides the selected candidate the opportunity to work on school programs materials and logistics. Get hands-on experience and learn how to facilitate education programs at the History Colorado Center.  Interns will lead facilitated school tours, maintain school program materials, work collaboratively with volunteers and staff, and attend school program meetings where they will participate actively in discussions that shape the school programs at the museum.  Working with the School Programs Manager and Coordinator, the interns will learn how to successfully lead school program experiences in a museum.  

Outcomes:  The intern will gain on-the-job training and skills in inquiry-based, standards aligned teaching, as well as customer service.  By the end of the internship, the intern will have developed best practices pedagogy through collaboration with experienced educators, group/class management skills, Colorado history content, leadership and customer services, and build connections with influential professionals in museum education and other related fields.  The intern will also assist with welcoming school groups and provide administrative support to the Education Department. 

Desired Skills/Academic Field of Study: Undergraduate, Graduate students, or recent graduates in the Education, History, Anthropology, Museum Studies, Sociology, and Child Development preferred.  Must be enthusiastic, hardworking with excellent communication skills.  Formal or informal teaching experience with children ages 5 – 18.  Desire to learn about education in a museum setting.  Spanish language is a plus (but not required).    

Timeline: If selected, virtual interviews will be conducted on September 8th, 10th, 12th, 15th, or 19th. Staff will contact selected candidates about specific times.  

Intern Orientation is September 30th, from 9:00-2:00 at the History Colorado Center. The training period lasts 2-3 weeks and will begin the week of orientation.
