This position serves as a Data Processing Technician for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT), performing journey level enterprise system and network operations control work and performing computer control functions. In this role, you will perform startups, shutdowns, system dumps (tasks, system, spool, etc.) and other functions for controlling a multi-processing computer environment. In addition, you will monitor, operate, and control systems and peripheral devices and environment to ensure appropriate availability and status resources.

Essential Functions

Under general supervision, serves as a Data Processing Technician (UMP) for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT), performing journey level enterprise system and network operations control work and performing computer control functions.

Monitors, operates, and controls systems and peripheral devices and environment to ensure appropriate availability and status resources.

Monitors various systems and contacts on-call staff to resolve any unresolved issues, such as system and server failures.

Keeps abreast of new developments in the information technology field by continuing education through online training platforms, meetings, training sessions, seminars, and conferences to increase familiarity with and remain current on products, vendors, techniques, and procedures.

Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
  • Requires one (1) year of related data processing experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) year of professional experience operating, monitoring, and controlling the enterprise computer systems utilizing various automated scheduling, z/OS and JES2 system commands, or similar software tools to ensure systems, operating platforms, subsystems, applications, networks and peripheral hardware are operating properly
  • Working knowledge of information processing system operation principles.
  • Working knowledge of production control procedures.
  • Working knowledge of job control languages set up and modification.
  • Ability to monitor consoles and enter keyboard commands rapidly and accurately.
  • Ability to identify system errors and correct accordingly.
  • Ability to compile and maintain necessary logs and reports.
  • Ability to analyze data logically and exercise sound judgement in defining and evaluating problems of an operational or procedural nature.
  • Ability to gain and maintain effective working relationships with associates, vendors, clients, and others.
  • Developed verbal and written communication skills to present technical information to others with clarify and precision.
