Full-Time Associate Veterinarian

Job Summary
The Associate Veterinarian will provide comprehensive veterinary care, including diagnostics, treatment, surgery, and preventative services, to a diverse patient population. This role involves collaborating with our experienced team to deliver personalized care, maintaining high standards of professionalism, and adhering to clinic policies, including our structured disciplinary escalation process. The ideal candidate is a compassionate, detail-oriented professional with strong communication skills and a commitment to lifelong learning.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care:
Perform wellness exams, diagnose illnesses, and develop treatment plans for small animals (dogs, cats), exotics (birds, reptiles, small mammals), and occasional large animals.
Administer vaccinations, parasite prevention, and nutritional counseling.
Conduct medical procedures in areas such as cardiology, dermatology, gastroenterology, neurology, oncology, and ophthalmology.
Provide pain management, anesthesia, and emergency care as needed.
Surgical and Dental Services:
Perform routine and emergency surgeries, including spay/neuter and soft tissue procedures.
Conduct dental cleanings, extractions, and advanced dental treatments.
Diagnostic Services:
Utilize in-house tools, including radiology (X-rays), ultrasound, bronchoscopy, endoscopy, and laboratory diagnostics, to ensure accurate diagnoses.
Interpret results and communicate findings to clients clearly and empathetically.
Client Communication:
Educate clients on preventative care, treatment options, and responsible pet ownership.
Provide follow-up care instructions and respond to client inquiries promptly.
Maintain detailed, accurate medical records in compliance with Alabama Veterinary Practice Act.
Team Collaboration:
Work closely with veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and support staff to ensure seamless patient care.
Participate in case discussions, staff training, and continuing education to stay current with veterinary advancements.
Uphold clinic policies, including our progressive disciplinary escalation process, to maintain a professional and respectful workplace.
Community Engagement:
Support clinic initiatives, such as client education seminars or local animal welfare events, to strengthen community ties.
Represent Animal Medical Clinic professionally in interactions with clients and partners.
Qualifications
Education and Licensure:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD) from an accredited institution.
Active veterinary license in good standing with the Alabama State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).
DEA registration for handling controlled substances (or ability to obtain).
Experience:
Minimum of 1–2 years of clinical experience preferred; new graduates encouraged to apply.
Proficiency in small animal medicine and surgery; experience with exotics is a plus.
Skills and Attributes:
Strong diagnostic, surgical, and dental skills with a commitment to evidence-based practice.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build trust with clients and collaborate with team members.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and composure under pressure.
Dedication to upholding clinic standards, including compliance with federal and Alabama veterinary regulations (e.g., proper handling of controlled substances).

Work Environment
Locations: Split time between our two Prattville facilities (407 E Main St and 1677 E Main St), both equipped with modern diagnostic and surgical tools.
Hours: Full-time schedule, typically 40 hours per week, with shifts Monday–Friday (8:00 AM–5:30 PM) and occasional Saturdays (8:00 AM–12:00 PM). On-call emergency shifts shared equitably among veterinarians.

Compensation and Benefits
Salary: Competitive base salary of $80,000–$120,000 annually, commensurate with experience, plus production-based bonuses.
