Who We Are:
Mental Health Support Services (MHSS) is the provider of mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorder services for children and adults in Chesterfield County. The Day Support Program provides day-time services at a community day program center to include skills training, supervision, and leisure/recreational activities to individuals with developmental disabilities. We are seeking qualified professionals who are passionate, dedicated, and energized about supporting individuals in developing relationships and connecting with the community. Minimum Education and Experience:
Successful candidate will possess a high school diploma or GED; some college coursework preferred; one year of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. College coursework in psychology, human services, or related fields preferred; at least one (1) year of experience in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities in activities of community integration, personal care, and life skills training preferred; experience working in a day support program preferred; experience with Medicaid Waiver preferred; experience writing or summarizing daily documentation of individuals in an electronic health record preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of purpose of residential and day program services, attitude of community toward individuals with developmental disabilities; knowledge of first aid, Basic Life Support (BLS), and emergency services; knowledge of community services and case management. Knowledge of basic proper methods and techniques used in the personal care, development and rehabilitation of individuals with intellectual disabilities preferred; ability to operate a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment preferred; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing preferred; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers preferred. Qualified Developmental Disabilities Professional certification preferred.
Additional Requirements:
Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date.
Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
This position is considered Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
•Supports individuals in the community to participate in recreational, cultural, civic, and related activities;
•Participates in the development and implementation of individual service plans as a member of the team; monitors and evaluates progress toward outcomes;
•Provides direct care, support, training, and assistance in the areas of personal care, behavior supports, and community integration;
•Completes documentation in an electronic health record according to agency licensure and Medicaid requirements; and
•Performs other work as required.
