If you're looking for an immersive experience in heavy civil construction, this program offers invaluable field and management exposure on diverse projects across the DC, Maryland, and Virginia areas. Our projects span from $1 million to over $500 million, encompassing civil, utility, bridge, and structural work. Beyond project involvement, our program provides abundant opportunities for networking, community service, and professional development to help you grow personally and professionally.
What You'll Experience
During your summer assignment, you'll gain hands-on experience in various aspects of our business. Your responsibilities could include:
- Project Acquisition & Bidding: Learn how Shirley secures new projects by assisting with subcontractor bid solicitation and evaluation, performing quantity takeoffs, and scoping bid packages.
- Field Operations Support: Work alongside field supervision, assisting self-perform and subcontractor crews with schedule planning and management, tracking daily quantities, receiving and tracking tickets, and reviewing Foreman Daily Timecards.
- Business & Financial Management: Dive into the business and financial aspects of project management. This includes administering subcontracts, reviewing payment requests, managing submittals and RFIs, and tracking change orders and budgets.
- Company Culture & Relationships: Immerse yourself in Shirley Contracting's culture and policies while building positive working relationships with customers and colleagues.
