Transportation Engineer Trainee 1 - Mineral County
The Transportation Engineer Trainee 1 is assigned to the District Construction Office but daily reporting locations can be in any of the 7 counties in District 5, depending on the Agency's needs. This position performs beginning-level training work to develop proficiency in the use of knowledge, skills, and abilities in highway/civil engineering. Employees in this class participate in an on-the-job training program under the supervision of Transportation Engineers. Assignments are varied and designed to develop the employee's ability to apply knowledge and skills in the civil engineering field for the solution of practical problems and to develop solutions that conform to departmental policies, rules, and regulations, as well as professional standards. Work is closely reviewed throughout the assignment for completeness and technical accuracy. Performs related duties as required. District 5 consist of Mineral, Grant, Hardy, Hampshire, Morgan, Berkley and Jefferson counties.
Special Requirement: A valid license as a registered professional engineer in West Virginia is required within ten (10) years of employment.
Minimum Requirements
REQUIRED TRAINING/EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree in civil, electrical, mechanical, industrial, petroleum, mining, environmental, engineering technology, or a related engineering field from an ABET-accredited program.
- Substitution: Certification as an Engineer Intern (EIT) by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers of West Virginia. Please attach your certification for verification.
Note: For the training/education, the qualifying degree must be verified before the employee may be certified as permanent. Please attach your degree transcript or diploma to your application.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- This is the entry-level classification in this series. No prior experience is required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: A VALID LICENSE AS A REGISTERED PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER IN WEST VIRGINIA IS REQUIRED WITHIN TEN (10) YEARS OF EMPLOYMENT.
