Civil Engineer
About you and this role:
Provides specialized technical support and solutions for project teams, operations and maintenance. Understands and implements Most Effective Technology (MET), work process, tools and industry best practices within their discipline. The Hardware Disciplines within Engineering and Maintenance are comprised of the following disciplines: Buildings, Civil, Electrical, Instrument, Materials, Mechanical, Process Containment Equipment and Piping. Hardware Disciplines support both projects and technical support teams as an inspector, engineer on large projects or lead for their discipline on small/intermediate projects. Requires conceptual knowledge of theories, techniques and methodology within the analytical technology discipline.
Responsibilities:
In the inspector and engineer capacity:
- Ensures drawings and specifications are clear and meet the needs of the business.
- Ensures reviews completed on time and that drawings and specifications are followed by fabricators, constructors and maintenance contractors when providing inspections.
In the project lead capacity:
- Serves as the leader of the project within their discipline. Has accountability for project results and for the implementation of and adherence to all relevant work processes and best practices.
- Drives front end loading to ensure clear scope definition along with establishing plans and schedules to enable adequate control during execution.
- Directs activities within their discipline and coordinates activities with other disciplines.
- Leads the completion of deliverables provided to estimating and reviews output of the estimate to ensure accurate reflection of scope.
- Leads technical contract package development and supports implementation.
- Drives value engineering and economic designs to ensure the best value is delivered to the business.
- Uses and enforces project change management program.
- Ensures safety in design.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering required.
- 2 years of industry experience preferred.
- A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
Able to meet the following physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations:
- Lift, push, and pull up to 55 lbs.
- Work at heights, climbs stairs and ladders.
- Wear all required personal protective equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes.
- Work in an area of intense or continuous noise.
- Work in an area with hazardous materials.
- Perform frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.
- Stand or walk for extended periods of time.
- This role does involve elevated work greater than or equal to four feet above the ground.
- Must be able to wear and use personal protective equipment (PPE), including harnesses with a total weight capacity of 300lbs.
Your Skills:
- Troubleshooting: Ability to work through a systematic approach that is data driven to identify potential root causes and resolve problems efficiently. Troubleshooting equipment and quality issues.
- Project Leadership Skills: Ability to facilitate cross functionally a coordinated effort to accomplish a project. To identify steps to milestones needed to accomplish the goals of a project. Examples: Identifying the actions needed to meet an LPP standard in the facility, and leading a small team to implement the actions.
- Technical Skills: Ability to learn basic chemistry and apply knowledge to assist in troubleshooting quality issues. Understanding of basic process technology: pumps, instrumentation, distillation, etc.
- Prioritization: The ability to assess all of the potential areas of focus, and able to prioritize what the organization is in most of need of to meet key deadlines. Focus on urgent when needed, and also ability to be proactive for important/non-urgent activities.
- Communication: Strategic communication management is the control of communication in and out of an organization to promote the clear exchange of information and ideas.
- Accountability: Accountability is the acknowledgment and assumption of responsibility for actions, products, decisions, and policies including the administration, governance, and implementation within the scope of the role.
- Critical Thinking: Critical thinking is the evaluation of facts to form a judgment by using the rational, data-based analysis of factual evidence.
