City of Boston Office of Youth Employment & Opportunity

2025-2026 Summer YouthWorks Grant Program 

The City of Boston Office of Youth Employment & Opportunity (OYEO) aims to not only to recruit and hire youth, but also to ensure that their entry level employment experience is engaging, meaningful, and a building block for their professional experience and personal success. The Youth Employment & Opportunity Youth Works grant is intended to support OYEO goals by engaging Boston youth in workforce development and providing access to resources, civic and learning opportunities. 

Program Overview: OYEO annually employs over 3,500 students, and Youth Career Development Programs. 

OYEO’s success in delivering optimal programming is made possible by the college-aged interns and seasonal staff who play an integral role in supporting the overall OYEO mission. Prospective candidates for the Youth Works grant program will support our career development team, and will have the opportunity to leverage their professional experience in the following areas: 

● Human Services 

● Training and Facilitation 

● Youth Career Development 

● Program Development 

About YouthWorks is a subsidized youth employment program administered by the Massachusetts Commonwealth Corporation, designed to provide low-income teens and young adults, 14 to 21 years of age, with their first employment experiences, work-readiness training, and the skills to find and keep an unsubsidized job. 

OYEO incorporates the grant funding as part of the youth jobs offered through the Mayor’s SuccessLink Youth Jobs Program. Funding is used to ensure disadvantaged youth, vulnerable youth, and youth with identified risk barriers have access to employment opportunities. 

Terms: 

Boston residency required during time of employment. 

● Summer part-time grant position with school-year part-time employment opportunity based on work performance 

● Summer timeline: June 2025 - August 2025 (flexible start and end dates) 

● OYEO has office hours of 9:30 AM - 5:30 PM, Monday-Friday. 

● Hours/Pay: Up to 30 hours per week, $26hr 

Anything above 35 hours must be approved by Supervisor 

● This seasonal part-time grant position does not provide insurance benefits. 

● CORI & SORI checks are required.
 

An ideal candidate for this department would: 

● Demonstrate behaviors and actions consistent with the City of Boston’s values and OYEO code of conduct and other policies and procedures. 

● Complete tasks as needed to support the youth employment program and the City of Boston Office of Youth Employment & Opportunity. 

● Participate in training, workshops, and application of skills necessary to perform assigned duties and responsibilities. 

● Be able to work some evenings and weekends 

● Have some experience MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) 

● Perform duties and responsibilities as needed to support the DYEO office 

Senior Career Coach (4 opening @ $26/hour): 

This position will report directly to the Senior Manager of Workforce & Career Readiness and YouthWorks Coordinator. These positions are designed for highly-skilled, hard-working, motivated individuals with experience in youth development. This position is for a person who possesses strong communication, facilitation, and mentorship skills and is interested in the development of young people. Self-directed workers who work well in teams is a must. 

An ideal candidate for this job would: 

● Manage and lead a career development team who will be responsible for working with a group of YouthWorks partner organizations, and youth employees (participants) to administer youth workforce readiness workshops and career readiness mentorship and learning activities 

● Review YouthWorks (Signal Success) career development curriculum and prepare materials, supplies, content and curriculum to be implemented to youth participants 

● Assist in the oversight and managing the work of college-aged Career Coaches and serve as a professional mentor 

● Work closely with YouthWorks partner organizations to monitor scheduling and 100% youth participation in the program 

● Manage portfolios of participants 

● Build strong working relationships will all YouthWorks partners, staff and youth participants 

● Monitor all work in the YouthWorks project management database 

● Support with the coordination and implementation of the Commonwealth Corporation YouthWorks program and all aligned career development dialogues, workshops, and curriculums 

● Research and stay abreast with current youth facilitation techniques and integrate proven methods into training curriculum to further enhance youth development and engagement

● Mentor and support program participants and provide case-management when 

necessary 

● Assist and coordinate data entry, pre and post-surveys, weekly monitoring and reporting for YouthWorks grant requirements 

● Create, develop and support innovative and interactive workforce development trainings based on research, national trends, and feedback from youth 

● Collaborate with team members and assist cross-department teams when necessary 

● Provide constructive feedback on Career Development and department initiatives
