Position Summary

Provides treatment to patients to facilitate development and rehabilitation of physical, cognitive, or emotional function. The goal is to restore and enhance functional independence. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy

Current Occupational Therapy license in good standing with the State of Michigan

Clinical experience preferred

BLS Certification (required within 3 months of employment)

Current Michigan driver’s license, access to a vehicle for daily business use, and proof of insurance (required)

Must successfully pass MVR check prior to start date

Proof of valid auto insurance and timely updates required

Skills and Abilities

Keyboarding skills for PC/mobile device use

Strong interpersonal communication with patients, families, and healthcare team

Effective teamwork and social sensitivity

Ability to handle delicate patient care matters professionally

Ability to communicate clearly in English

Physical and Mental Demands

Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds

Occasional pushing, pulling, or assisting with heavier tasks

Work involves mental/visual fatigue with frequent deadlines

Computer use up to 40% of the time

Clinical Responsibilities

Interpret and implement referrals

Evaluate patient status using standardized assessments

Set patient goals and establish a treatment plan

Educate families and communities

Participate in interdisciplinary rounds

Estimate length of treatment

Support program development and process improvement

Serve as a resource and provide inservices within area of expertise

Deliver direct patient care aligned with treatment goals

Design and fabricate splints or assistive devices as needed

May be cross-trained in other rehab departments

Administrative Responsibilities

Document evaluations, treatment plans, and progress

Maintain timely and complete records in the electronic health record

Communicate documentation limitations to leadership

Serve on task forces and committees

Participate in process improvement initiatives

Demonstrate effective time management

Supervise COTAs, OT students, rehab assistants, and volunteers
