WSBE Rhode Island PBS

Communications Intern

January - May 2023 • Providence, RI

What I liked

WSBE Rhode Island PBS created a program for me that was adjustable, allowing me to try a plethora of different things throughout my time there. I worked on event planning for their annual fundraising event, I worked with production on a segment of a popular show, and I managed social media posts for the event page and the main page. It was very versatile.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have stayed longer. I joined the production team at the very end of my experience there and discovered how much I loved it. I wish I tried it out earlier, I would have loved to join the team for even more.

Advice

Go into this experience ready to learn, but be sure to voice your opinions. The staff is very welcoming, they want to hear what you think. They also want to curate a unique experience for you, so share your interests and be open to trying things you never considered before.

Communications Intern

What I liked

I liked the independence of the projects I worked on. I enjoyed being tasked with long-term projects and having daily check-ins with my supervisor to see how they were going. There was a very flexible environment and I enjoyed the casual nature of the meetings.

What I wish was different

Half of my internship experience was remote so I wish I could have participated in a more hands-on internship that was focused more in-office.

Advice

I would recommend everyone who is working for a larger company to get to know the higher-ups in the company. Even if you are not directly reporting to them, it goes a long way in showing that you are passionate about the company and puts a face to a name.
