My job is right on campus, which kept me connected to university happenings throughout the summer. In addition, it made it easy to keep working during the school year.

I got this job by just asking about it--the sign on the door said they had no openings, but it turns out they did! Moral of the story: it never hurts to ask!

I liked having a job where I could bring my son with me to eliminate the added cost of childcare. My coworkers and my boss are the greatest and create a great work environment.

Advice
If you are able to work on campus during the summer you should. It is a different environment and allows you to build closer friendships with your coworkers and get to know the faculty and staff better.

I had the opportunity to work on real projects that the University used and I got to complete full projects, rather than just working on parts of other people's projects.

I wish I had more opportunities to shadow the full-time designers.
Advice
Ask to shadow the full-time designers. Ask to attend press-checks and photoshoots with them.
