Community Management Intern

June 2017 • Salem, OR

What I liked

I like that I get to learn all the different components that need to be done on a daily bases by management to keep the store running smoothly everyday. I get to continue learning throughout the school year and have the opportunity to stay on with Walgreens after graduating.

What I wish was different

The only thing i can think of that could be different would be to have me work at the same location all throughout and not have to be commuting to different walgreens locations. Since I've gotten moved around I have to get used to different management styles that every store manger has, and some expect me to know and do things that I haven't been trained in..

Advice

It's great to have any kind of internship because you get to learn a lot while on the job, and not only do you get to learn what those positions deal with on a day to day but you get to figure out if it's a career you want to pursue.

The store was organized and clear on what everyone's position was. Every manager and coworker had a lot of respect for one another which allowed us to help one another when needed.

What I wish was different

Certified Pharmacy Technician

June 2016 • Shelbyville, IN

What I liked

I love the fact that I have the opportunity to learn about medications, patients, and the different laws surrounding the pharmacy and medicine.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have been trained more thoroughly. It seems this position has a pretty steep learning curve and it took me about 6 months to get everything down. Honestly, I'm still actively learning with each day I work, but I wish I could've been taught the basics through hands on experience with another person rather than me figuring things out for myself.

Advice

Try to find someone who can actively help in your training, and always ask questions!

Customer Service Associate

February 2016 • Cedarburg, WI

What I liked

I met a variety of people and I enjoy helping others. I also experienced managerial duties and got to be more invovled with the company, which has helped me prepare for my future career in marketing after graduation.

What I wish was different

I was always moving from store to store around Ozaukee County, but it gave me a wider range of experience through different customer segments and layout designs based off of geographical location. I wish I could have been consistent with a store and been able to grow through the managment experience by being payed for the work I was putting in.

Advice

Everyday is a new opportunity to wake up and go and learn something new, whether it's through scrolling through and article or whether it's through meeting someone new. Overall, go into everyday as an awesome opportunity to grow.

Customer Service Associate

May - August 2018 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

Interacting and working together with my co-workers. Also the occasional drama and scenes caused by unruly and rude customers whose ego is larger than the sun.

What I wish was different

I wish I been paid more for the things I have to deal with. Short-change scam artists, thieves, and rude customers. I also wish I was able to gain an internship and do something that relevant with my major.

Advice

Don't wait till the end of the spring semester to start applying to jobs. Apply early since that when you will have the most opportunities. Also go to career fair even if you are freshman or sophomore so you can get your name out there. Companies keep track of this stuff and they may contact you once you enter your junior/senior year.
