What I liked

This community is just absolutely amazing! The people are welcoming and committed to learning and producing action as a united force. This network has been very valuable to my professional development & knowledge in sustainability. The skills I developed through my internship definitely strengthened my position as a sustainable business leader.

What I wish was different

I wish I had the opportunity to meet with some of the Midwest network, but COVID-19 was still a safety challenge at the time. I’m sure now it could be done, especially with the growth of our network! :)

Advice

You get what you put in — go to community hours, reach out to people, attend events, take advantage of leadership opportunities & more to really optimize your experience with Voiz!

What I liked

It immediately stuck out to me how Voiz has such an amazing environment that makes creating, learning and teaching so engaging. Another great aspect of Voiz is how understanding, supportive, and welcoming the community is. The leaders at Voiz are constantly challenging us to be rigorous and bold, not in a way that is overwhelming but instead in a way that is inspiring and sparks passion in students.

What I wish was different

Nothing!

Advice

With Voiz being a DAO, you really have the power to create your own experience at this internship. Voiz focuses heavily on a responsiveness approach, so students have the ability to share their feedback and goals with the internship constantly being updated.

What I liked

There are so many different ways to get involved with Voiz! I am currently in the 6th week of the internship and we are in the midst of the 8-week course on sustainability and it is so interesting and important, I feel like everyone needs to take a course like this. We review products based on their sustainability and it is completely free-range, you can choose any product you like! After you write your review you can also reach out to the companies and share your review with them. I've gotten into contact with two companies already and am talking to them about how they could be more sustainable! Yvonne and Diego are always there to help with anything and so are all of the other students who've been with Voiz for awhile. I am also getting involved with the education aspect of Voiz and becoming a campus ambassador as well! This internship is a great way to connect with like-minded people across the world. You can also get course credit from your school!

What I wish was different

There's nothing we can do about it because of COVID-19, but I wish we were able to make this a more personal internship and have local hubs that meet up. We tried doing socials over Zoom, but everyone is so busy it didn't succeed. In the future when things get better, our goal is to have hubs across the globe where students can meet in person!

Advice

You don't have to be an environmental major to be a part of this internship. Literally all fields of work are welcomed and wanted because sustainability is intersectional and we need different people from different disciplines to put all of our heads together!

What I liked

The weekly socratic seminars were so helpful in helping me cement the information I had previous learned in college as well as showing how sustainability could be applicable in various corporate fields down the line.

What I wish was different

The only thing I wish had been done differently is up to the student themselves. What you put into this internship is what you get out of it. I wish I had not waited so long to reach out and get information on the Venture Track. It's never too late to become more involved at Voiz, but don't be hesitant to reach out on Day 1.

Advice

I would say to keep an open mind about how many different fields of work/study are involved in sustainability. Sustainability isn't cookie-cutter, it can be applicable to different fields in different ways.

What I liked

Voiz Internship is an amazing opportunity to begin your journey in sustainability. Through this internship, I gained an in-depth understanding of Sustainability, UN Sustainable Development Goals, Impact investing, and Corporate Social Responsibility. In addition, the internship also provides a platform to gain hands-on experience in social media content creation and brand outreach. Yvonne and Diego extended immense support throughout the internship and were great mentors.

What I liked

Voiz creates a great community for interns to follow their specific interests in sustainability as well as startups. A large amount of the internship consists of independent work, but there are frequent group meetings to share progress and to collaborate. Voiz is a decentralized organization where there is no intimidating hierarchy in place. Instead, there is a collaborative energy and structure where anyone is granted space to share their beliefs, ideas, and experiences. Working at Voiz has lifted my standards for my peers as the interns displayed immense amounts of motivation, passion, hard work, intelligence, and kindness.

What I wish was different

Since Voiz works with a group of interns living in many different timezones across the globe, sometimes it was difficult to make it to meetings. I know others definitely had this problem more than me, but through the use of Slack and Zoom, it was always easy to communicate with others when meetings were missed. However, the pros of working with a global group of peers largely outweighs this con!

Advice

Never hesitate to reach out to co-founders Yvonne and Diego if you have any questions throughout the internship or if you need some advice regarding career or personal development. They are great mentors that really care about their interns!

What I liked

This was easily one of the best internships that I've ever done. What was especially unique about this internship is the curriculum: 2 hours every week, we actually attended an interactive class in which the sole purpose is to learn about sustainability. We talked learned about the UN SDGs, supply chains, packaging materials, sustainable investing, you name it. The other interns are from all over the world and never ceased to amaze me with their drive and passion for making the world a better place. This experience was all possible because of our co-founders, Yvonne and Diego. They're seasoned professionals in their respective industries and started Voiz because they're truly passionate about sustainability. TRULY passionate. It's demonstrated in the creative freedom they give us interns, the strong relationships we've built with brands, and their drive to forever change consumer culture. If you adaptable and want to be part of a diverse and innovate team full of self-starters, this is the place for you.

What I liked

With Voiz, I had one of the best internship experiences I have ever had! The founders are deeply committed to fostering an inclusive and proactive company culture. Following a horizontal leadership structure, Voiz is transparent and flexible, allowing new ideas to be continuously be tested. Each intern is given the tools and support needed to not only significantly contribute to creating and growing Voiz, but also propose changes and explore new opportunities for growth and impact. Holistic sustainability (that is inclusive of social justice and equity, in addition to economic and environmental sustainability) and innovative technology are truly at the foundation of Voiz and influence each decision made.

What I wish was different

As a part-time intern, I had other competing commitments during my internship. If I could change one thing about my experience, I would ensure that I had more dedicated time to commit to Voiz. My cohort of interns collaborated on several exciting side projects for Voiz, which I would have liked to have been more involved with.

Advice

There are no wrong answers or bad ideas at Voiz. Anyone working with them should never be afraid to share their perspective or ideas, and always ask more questions!
