Village of Hinsdale, IL

Pool Manager

May 2020 - August 2021 • Hinsdale, IL

What I liked

I liked the every-day routine of getting in to work, knowing that I had to do every hour (in regard to checking chemicals, doing safety breaks, advising swim lessons, etc), and I liked doing different things throughout the shift. Whether that was manager things such as payroll, swim lessons coordinator items like matching instructors and children, doing my own lessons with families, checking chemicals, etc. It was not monotonous and I got to be outside.

What I wish was different

Although difficult, working with primarily high schoolers makes for a lower age of maturity and some frustrating situations such as not getting shifts covered, not having a great work ethic, some drama, and other things like that, which come with job experience and age.

Advice

The more that I worked and picked up shifts the closer I grew with other employees which made the day to day more enjoyable. Also, it is important to be a boss not a friend to your subordinates otherwise they will not respect you.
