Web Application Developer Intern

June - August 2018 • Rosemont, IL

What I liked

I was working on projects that went into production and had the ability to work on their mobile application, which was a great process. Most of my time, I felt like a full-time employee and the team was really welcoming. I definitely loved the environment and learned a lot during that experience.

What I wish was different

I just wish that there were different locations instead of solely being in Rosemont and Tempe. That way I can still be with the company, but be in a different state.

Advice

Definitely ask questions when you do not know the answer and AFTER you try the problem yourself. It is okay not to know everything, and only by asking questions will you learn and make more progress.

development oprerations

May - August 2018 • Tempe, AZ

What I liked

Friendly, Open environment. It allowed me to grow and reduce "technical debt". Worked on real projects and made connections with bright individuals.

What I wish was different

I wish the intern program was more structured. Current internship program in Tempe is very small and projects for interns are not predetermined.

Advice

Connect with others, Learn how they impact the company. Don't hesitate to ask questions to your teammates, and work on additional projects that you think might positively impact the company.

Nothing to note, the experience was entirely positive.

Advice

Marketing/Procurement Intern

May - August 2018 • Perth Amboy, NJ

What I liked

Great people. This company is people-oriented, and the company culture is very kind. Kind of like old-fashioned hospitality. After completing basic duties, you have the flexibility to ask to be more involved and really dig deep to learn about the company's processes. The Intern Program is really helpful in seeing all aspects of the company, as you go on a Truck Driver ride-along, Sales Rep ride-along, and get a tour of the warehouse.

What I wish was different

Since it is a mid-sized company with employees separated by departments in different locations of the building, I just wish I was able to interact with other departments as well as work a night in the warehouse to see how everything worked.

Advice

Just talk to everyone, make connections, learn more about everybody's roles and their stories.

Tech Analysis Intern

May - August 2018 • Phoenix, AZ

What I liked

The atmosphere at US Foods is super friendly and open. It was easy to cross train and test out different domains. I loved being able to work on different teams within IT. It helped me figure out what I liked and didn't like.

What I wish was different

I wished they had a bigger internship program. We had 8 last year but I know they are growing their internship program in Phoenix.

Advice

Don't be afraid to say I don't know and ask a lot of questions. Be open to learn and get your hands on as much technology as you can.
