Unilever

R&D Intern

May - August 2019 • Trumbull, CT

What I liked

I felt like I was really valued and a part of a team, instead of just an intern that runs around and gets coffee for the full-time employees. I was given a project that I was fully in charge of that related to real-world problems and business needs.

What I wish was different

Advice

You need to be self-motivated and confident in yourself and your knowledge.

Supply Chain Co-op

January - June 2019 • Suffolk, VA

What I liked

The 6-month duration allowed me to work on projects that had greater scope than what could be accomplished during an internship. The projects I worked on solved real business problems and I knew that I was contributing to the bottom line. I liked how I had many projects that dealt with very different aspects of manufacturing.

What I wish was different

I wish that expectations and deliverables had been more clearly defined.

Advice

Unilever is all about networking. Take time to set up information interviews with higher ups. If you are placed in a factory and have the goal of getting into the UFLP, you must find ways to network with the North American Directors who sit at corporate. They are the ones who do the UFLP interviews.

Marketing Intern

June - August 2018 • Englewood Cliffs, NJ

What I liked

I loved how interactive my internship project was. I learned a lot about each function, not just marketing, and was able to get a better understanding on how marketing interacts with the rest of the company.

What I wish was different

More training sessions on processes and maybe a brief intro to all roles to find the best points of contact as you complete your intern project.

Advice

Interact with your team, network with people and learn about their experience with the company as much as possible. Take learnings from everyone you speak to.

Research and Development Intern

May - August 2019 • Trumbull, CT

What I liked

I loved the work I did and the people I got to meet through this internship. Unilever as a company cares a lot about its employees, and does a great job of assigning meaningful intern projects and very good intern managers. I learned so much about research in the industry, as well as a lot of the business effects of research which I was not expecting.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been a little bit more guidance in coordinating housing for the internship.

Advice

This internship is a really great experience. Keep your mind open to learning and trying all kinds of new things, even things you do not expect.
