Toyota Material Handling

Commodity Buyer

May - July 2023 • Columbus, IN

What I liked

Being an intern at Toyota Material Handling offered a unique opportunity to gain exposure to the material handling industry, the methods and processes used by Toyota in this area, and supply chain management. Working as a commodity buyer intern allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge from their academic studies in a real-world setting. This was very rewarding and educational, as it enabled my understanding of the challenges in this role. I also had access to training programs and other opportunities to develop skills and knowledge related to procurement. I was especially thankful for the real-time exposure and guidance from those at Toyota Material Handling.

What I wish was different

Overall, my internship was a successful and meaningful experience. It allowed me to advance personally and professionally. However, regular feedback and evaluation could help interns understand their progress, strengths, and areas for improvement throughout the internship.

Advice

Approach each day with a curious mindset, ready to absorb knowledge and learn from the experiences, challenges, and successes you encounter during your internship. Don't hesitate to ask questions and seek guidance. It shows your eagerness to learn and your dedication to understanding the role and the company better.
