Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies

Ideation Engineering Inter

May - August 2021 • Lakewood, CO

What I liked

Terumo BCT is a great company to work for. My experience there was invaluable to my future career as an engineer. Their intern program there is very supportive and offers a lot of fun and growing opportunities. I was the project lead for an ideation project that was in charge of evaluating and building disposables for a new product. We performed field research, tested theories, built mathematical models and participated in weekly group development discussion. I was also able utilize all my training in Human Factors, to ensure that the appropriate users and interfaces were being evaluated, as well as my knowledge of Design controls to ensure proper documentation of design discussion. It was the perfect combination of utilizing my current skills and abilities while exposing me to new equipment and techniques for testing and designing. The managers there are very supportive and encouraging regarding a persons projects and goals.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have worked there longer, but given that my school is my number 1 priority until I graduate I had to step away to focus on my studies.

Advice

Learn as much as you possibly can. Do not be afraid to reach out to others around you for help. Seek a mentorship while in industry, someone whose work ethic and work you would like to learn more about, be upfront about what you want and where your passions lie!
