What I liked

It was a great experience to interact with all types of people and learn to keep my calm in all types of situations.

What I wish was different

Maybe not being as afraid to try the different positions at the job.

Advice

Make sure you can keep calm when things are going crazy. Also, know that not every action deserves a reaction. Do your job to the best of your ability and dont let someone come in and ruin your day or mess you up from doing what you know your suppose to do.

Restaurant Shift Leader

August 2015 • Roanoke, IN

What I liked

You meet so many different people, local and out of state/country. Everyone is kind and helpful, and being "behind the scenes" encourages you expand your tastes and try new things.

What I wish was different

At times, I wish I would have had more experience; this was my first job right out of high school, and it's hard at times since I have no work experience outside of the job I have now.

Advice

Work hard and be nice. If someone asks you to work more hours, if you're available, take them up on their offer; it shows you are serious about your job and you'll also earn some good favor with your other co-workers. Also, don't engage in workplace gossip; they are usually talking about other employees, and you don't want to get involved and share some of the blame if word gets around. Always remember that as an employee, you are constantly being monitored; your boss' know more than you may think they do.

June - August 2018 • Springville, UT

What I liked

I liked eating free sandwiches every 4 hours I worked. I also got free drinks and cookies.

What I wish was different

I wish the radio had more variety. It had a total of 10 pop songs on repeat, and that gets a bit old after a while. We could change the radio to this oldies station with dozens of songs, but my manager would always change it back after a while.

Advice

Make friends with your coworkers. Enjoying a job is usually more about the people than the work. Find reasons to smile.

Sandwich Maker

July 2018 • Tempe, AZ

What I liked

Interacting with customers, many who came to the store daily. I also liked making the sandwiches and watching how creative some people could get.

What I wish was different

The management at the time did a terrible job of teaching proper techniques and daily jobs. There were many times I would be faulted for not doing things that I had actually never learned to do.

Advice

Subway is a great first job that teaches you the general workplace experience in fast food, but would not be suitable for a long term career.

Employee

June - August 2018 • Lancaster, TX

What I liked

Working with nice people and overall a great environment. Getting to know the ‘regular’ customers more everyday made me happier and it didn’t feel like a job after that it was pleasurable.

What I wish was different

Started early on maybe towards the end of my senior year instead of just the summer.

Advice

Not every customer that comes in will be nice but it doesn’t matter what their situation might be. As long as you remain courteous it not only makes you look better but it teaches you a lot about staying humble and overall keeps you proud of yourself.
