State Farm

Claims Intern

May - July 2021 • Dallas, TX

What I liked

State Farm as a company was wonderful, loved the company culture and all the people I met. I learned a lot and never expected to get into insurance which I found amusing. But I had a very productive and wonderful time during the summer.

What I wish was different

I only wish the internship hadn't been remote, but that couldn't be changed unfortunately.

Advice

Pay attention and network, people WANT to help you succeed.

Sales Intern (Insurance)

May - August 2021 • Roseville, MN

What I liked

It was very stable. I had a specific routine throughout the week I knew what time work started when I would leave. There were many opportunities to critique specific skills that I needed to work on and discovered ones I excelled with. I enjoyed getting to have the freedom to explore different marketing strategies that I learned throughout my time at Gustavus with customers.

What I wish was different

Just a variety of new tasks to do. Overtime work there became very repetitive and mundane.

Advice

It was a great introduction to what a typical sales position would be like with an insurance company. One piece of advice would be to absorb everything you're taught with sales like a sponge. I learned a lot of different techniques and skills to use to help finish sales and create relationships with customers.
