I loved being able to give campers the best experience possible and grow in my own faith.
What I wish was different
I think everything was great. I would relive that summer if I could
Advice
If you are at all interested in this, do it. It is such a great experience, teaching kids about God and His love while making sure they are having fun.

What I liked
I got to spend every second of the day sharing the love of Jesus with kids. In my position I had the opportunity to work with kids with disabilities to show them that they could do everything they set their minds to. Not to mention I got to spend all summer outside having fun!
What I wish was different
I wish there was more preparation for the end of the summer, it was difficult to transition out if camp mode and out of spending intentional time with God all of the time.
Advice
Be ready to let go of control and trust that there is a reason for your work. It is the best job I have ever had but it was also the hardest summer of my life.

What I wish was different
The communication with counselors could use some improvement.

Camp Counselor
June - August 2019 • Evart, MI
What I liked
I loved getting to know and serve the kids in an impactful way. Helping them through new situations at camp showed me how much I love helping children and what techniques work. I learned so much that it is hard to put into words.
What I wish was different
I wish I could have known how much of an impact I had during my experience rather than after. It was hard to see the hard work paying off during the summer, but after summer was done, I could reflect on the work I did.
Advice
Use your creativity to make impactful experiences for you and the kids! They will never forget dressing up in a silly costume, or how they put shaving cream and paint all over their counselor. Be yourself, and you will find where you fit in.

What I liked
They came up with an effective plan to allow children and Teens to still have summer camp experience while in the middle of the pandemic.
What I wish was different
I wish at times we had more counselors per camper.
Advice
You need to be able to come up with a new plan on the fly, especially when more than one thing goes wrong.

What I liked
I loved the community and atmosphere at SpringHill camp, as nearly all the staff were incredibly friendly, welocming, and helpful. They also did a tremendous job of balancing fun activities with intentional time devoted towards the Lord, as they had a big focus on relationships, not only with the Lord, but with each other as well.

Area Director
June - August 2020 • Evart, MI
What I liked
I like how the camp was able to even make camp happen this year. With SO much planning, the directors made it possible to craft a safe environment and really just teach thousands of kids about Jesus in the woods. Take away all the lights, the bands, the craziness and just sit with some kids in the woods and it reminded me of my own childhood.
I really liked the community and the relationships that I built this summer. When you think of a job, you don't prioritize the friendships you'll make. This is like an added bonus.
What I wish was different
I wish the salary was different. Because it's a non-profit, the amount we make is pennies for the job we have to perform.
Advice
To do it. Step out of your comfort zone and apply for that higher position, and do not be afraid!

Summer Camp Staff
May - August 2020 • Evart, MI
What I liked
The community was an amazing support system and despite the virus, we still got to provide a lot of kids a great experience! I loved our team and the effort that was put into the whole summer, and I loved being able to be in different locations and attend different churches.
What I wish was different
That the virus wasn't around - typical, I know, but it affected SO much of our summer and created additional stress that was not needed for our team and for the parents of the kids that attended.
Advice
Learn to be vulnerable and accept help - burn out is real and it's overwhelming. Others are there to support and uplift you. Let them.

What I liked
Nice place to meet new people.
What I wish was different
I wish they we're excepting towards more communities. They spread hate towards minorities such as the LGBTQ+ and others. As christians they should never spread hate but thats some of the only things they do. They claim to bring Jesus to other but are actively pushing kids away from the religion. I know kid's personally who have denounced christianity due to them, horrible for a community who claims they are all inclusive.
The management is horrible they don't listen to workers and over work people. I got a UTI from not being able to leave to go to the bathroom while working the tubbing hill.
Advice
dont work here, don't support these so called "christians"
