Advice

It’s not for everyone— but if you keep in mind that you are serving Christ, then it is all worth it.

Social Media Intern

June 2018 - May 2019 • Grand Rapids, MI

What I liked

I loved working for a Christian business rooted in faith with a mission to bring kids to Christ. I enjoyed working with the marketing team and learned so much from the marketing director there. It was also really exciting to work in such a high paced atmosphere and get to be responsible for all of their social media. I also got to have a huge role in raising over $25,000 for scholarships, a Christmas initiative to bring more kids to camp, and a recruiting campaign for staffing next summer's counselors.

What I wish was different

I wish there were more opportunities to learn from other roles in the business.

Advice

Don't be afraid to make suggestions, your ideas are valid and your employers value fresh perspectives.

Customer Service Area Director

May 2017 - August 2019 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

When working for SpringHill, you build such a community on your team. It is such a hard work and such long hours, but is totally worth it. I grew more in my leadership and character than I could have in a classroom.

What I wish was different

I wish that financial compensation would have been better.

Advice

If you want to get outside of your comfort zone, serve some kiddos, see some new cities, and ultimately give your summer to serving God, then this is the job for you!

Day Camp Counselor

May - August 2018 • Indianapolis, IN

What I liked

I loved learning to share the gospel with children. SpringHill also came with an awesome work environment! Even those most days involved working 7 AM-6 PM I always knew I was supported by staff. Where I felt drained in one area I was lifted up. This experience honestly completely changed my life.

What I wish was different

I would have loved getting work with an older age group as well. Sometimes communication was a struggle, but that depends on your director and certain aspects of the job.

Advice

Be prepared to pick your battles. If you sweat the small stuff you'll miss the big picture. This job does take an emotional toll, that is well worth the reward) don't make it harder on your self.

Media Director

May - August 2018 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I loved doing photography and videography of kids all summer. Capturing their energy was a beautiful thing.

What I wish was different

I wish the team had been a little more cohesive. Don't get me wrong, I loved my team for the most part. There were a couple issues within the team that were just pushed under the rug, and there were a couple people hired who should not have been.

Advice

If you are to work with SpringHill, take some time and KNOW what they stand for. They live by what their mission statement says, and they expect you to fully believe in line with what they do. They are no lukewarm camp; they have integrity in what they do. And they expect that you do as well.

Camp Counselor

What I liked

The best things about working at a camp is having a great faith focused community and making life long friends while growing in faith with Christ.

What I wish was different

I don’t think I would have had it any different than what it was. There may have been a couple different changes that could be made, but I didn’t see it.

Advice

Be flexible, don’t worry about what you look like, get weird, have fun, and don’t make it seem as if your above the campers. Have them respect and admire you and be real with them
