Sorenson

Communications Assistant

May 2019 • Orem, UT

What I liked

The hours are flexible to the schedule of the individual and there are options for changing hours if needed. For example, students have the option to have a split schedule to make room for working the same amount of hours in the day while fitting in time for classes. The co-workers are friendly and supportive of individual workers' personal progress, and the environment is positive. Lastly, the job is very fulfilling, knowing that what you are doing is helping to improve the quality of people's lives by helping them communicate over the phone.

What I wish was different

Because of the nature of the job, to help people have conversations over the phone, the demand for assistance increases on particular holidays when more people call their loved ones, so it is difficult to get time off on holidays like Christmas.

Advice

The job requires development of new skills, such as how to properly dictate calls using Dragon technology. These skills require time to develop, so be prepared to be patient with yourself and recognize your step-by-step improvements over time.
