The community we work with is unique, vibrant, and compassionate. The full time staff are incredibly experienced and knowledgable, but all members went above and beyond to ensure our clients were cared for.
What I wish was different
The only real barrier is our ability to communicate and build bonds with families due to language barriers. This could be solved with more interpretation services, however that requires more funds which are finite at a non-profit organization.
A large population of refugee clients. In order to succeed and avoid burnout you need to be knowledgable in and sensitive to emotional, behavioral, and cultural differences that can lead to conflict. There is also a high potential for children to be suffering from PTSD, so this may not be the easiest position for first time child care providers.
