Reilly, Penner & Benton, LLP

Audit Intern

May - August 2020 • Milwaukee, WI

What I liked

With RPB being a relatively smaller accounting firm with around 40 employees, the transition from the classroom to working with clients wasn't so intimidating. It was easy to get to know everyone, which made asking questions much easier. Whenever I did ask a question, the manager/in-charge that I was working with always made sure to not only answer the question, but made sure I understood why I was doing a certain procedure/workpaper.

What I wish was different

Time spent at clients was always productive, however, not the same can be said for some days spent in the office. There's only so much work that can be given to the interns when in the office and away from clients, so I found myself being bored some days.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions! Those at RPB made it very clear from day one that they understand interns are there to learn and that they encourage questions. It's only a three month internship, which flew by, so take advantage of your time there and learn as much as you possibly can.
