PwC

Core Assurance Intern

June - August 2018 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I loved the company atmosphere and seeing directly how PwC professionals live out the company's core values.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have been given a rotational program opportunity, but I did have great opportunities to network with professionals from different industries.

Advice

I would advise people to take advantage of every resource offered by the Gies College of Business to help find an internship and full-time offer. If I hadn't used one of the resources to prepare, I honestly do not think I would be in the same position that I am today.

What I liked

I enjoyed the team I had the privilege of working with and create meaningful relationships with. Everyone was always willing to help and contribute to my learning.

What I wish was different

More exposure to different teams and areas of the firm.

Always put yourself out there and network with others! You never know who can help you out one day. Accounting is a small world, you are bound to run into a connection sooner than later, so make the most out of it!

Assurance Intern

June - August 2018 • Cleveland, OH

What I liked

Overall, I enjoyed my entire internship. From training to being at 3 different client sites to Networking events, it was all a great experience. I learned so much through the work I was doing, but most importantly networked with so many great individuals within the firm.

What I wish was different

There isn't much I wish was different, maybe that it could have been a week or so longer.

Advice

Ask as many questions as you can. Some of the work is really hard for an intern, but that is because you are actually helping them out and not just doing busy work. Also, network as much as possible.

Tax Intern

June - August 2019 • Boston, MA

What I liked

I liked that I had the opportunity to network with several Merrimack alumni that work in the firm. It was really great to be able to get their perspectives on what it is like to work at the firm. I also liked that I had the opportunity to shadow different employees from different lines of service and different industries within that line of service. This helped me to see where I could potentially start my career. I was also given a peer coach, a career coach, and a relationship coach. These individuals were there to answer any questions that I had, provided me with guidance, helped me to set up networking opportunities, and helped me to seek other opportunities within the firm.

What I wish was different

The only thing that I wish had been different was my commute. I spent roughly 3 hours round trip getting to the office.

Advice

If you have the opportunity to pursue an internship at PwC, I strongly encourage you to network as much as possible while you are at the firm. You can network with different alumni from you school as well as other individuals who work in an area that interests you. The more you network the more you get to see the different opportunities in the firm. It also helps you to show your interest in working for the company.

Capital Markets and Accounting Advisory Intern

June - August 2018 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

I liked the people that I worked with and the camaraderie of the team. All of the interns also got close and there were lots of opportunities for us to work with different people and on different engagements. The full-time employees were also always willing to help.

What I wish was different

I wish we had a chance to visit client sites.

Advice

Don't be hesitant to share what type of experience you're hoping to get out of the internship to your coaching team. Also don't be afraid to share what types of engagements and clients you want to be on if the internship is falling short of your expectations because it goes by extremely fast.

Capital Markets Accounting Advisory Intern

June - August 2018 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

I greatly enjoyed working with the CMAAS team and learning about some of the technical accounting problems that professionals tackle in the real world.

What I wish was different

I would've certainly enjoyed a longer internship and the commute up from Santa Clara was long.

Advice

Don't be afraid to look outside what others in your major are doing. I was originally planning on pursuing an Audit Internship but this route was far better suited for me.

Risk Assurance Intern

June - August 2018 • San Jose, CA

What I liked

I really enjoyed the people I met and the challenges that I was presented with. One of the best things about PwC is working with individuals who are talented and intelligent. This enables one to grow as a person. I also liked the amount of technology in my job. I feel like I learned a lot of new tech skills and tech software. At my internship, I was a sponge who was constantly absorbing the new ideas and concepts being presented to me. It was a lot of hard work but when my internship finished I felt very proud of myself.

What I wish was different

I wish I had looked at different careers at PwC. PwC has many different careers and opportunities and I wish I had the opportunity to look at different careers.

Advice

One piece of advice that I would give is that interns should shadow PwC business professionals in other lines of service. Shadowing can help an individual learn about other careers at PwC and if they would like they could potentially switch to a different line of service.

Cybersecurity Consultant

October 2018 - March 2019 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

The team I worked with was very flexible and let me work on things that interested me. If I wanted to work on or learn something new, my team supported me and provided the resources to do so. They treated me like a member of the team and not just an intern, and valued my opinion on decisions for the company.

What I wish was different

This was a consulting job, but I worked on the same client for the entire 6 month co-op. This wasn't an issue at all as I really liked the client and the project, but it would have been interesting to see another client with a different project scope.

Advice

The more initiative you take, the more the people you work with will support you and trust you with greater responsibilities.
