Sales and Business Development Intern

May - August 2018 • Grand Rapids, MI

What I liked

They had a great training program and cool resources for interns! We got very structured project lists and I knew what was expected of me. Each intern had their own manager and so there was always available help. The company culture is general is also amazing!

What I wish was different

Work hours fed into personal life a lot and you're sort of expected to have eyes on your email at all times no matter what. I wish I had more information going in the the beginning about the kind of work I was going to be doing, because it would have reduced my confusion the first week!

Advice

It's a great opportunity to get your foot in the door of sales, marketing, and simply strategy work. Be ready to work hard and deliver great results. Know that locations are randomly selected and none of your choices might get chosen for you so be flexible.

Brand Management Intern

May - August 2018 • Boston, MA

What I liked

P&G's brand management internship is a one of a kind experience. From Day 1, P&G gives you responsibilities and projects that will drive your business unit. You are afforded the opportunity to shape multi-billion dollar brands and have an impact on your business's P&L. Even after you leave for the summer, your work lives on, continuing to inform decisions leadership is making for your brand. Throughout the course of the internship, I worked on three projects calibrated specifically to my strengths as a marketer and areas I needed to develop. Each intern reported to a brand manager and had an assistant brand manager as their coach. Outside of your direct reporting line, P&G provided interns with buddies, affinity groups and school teams so that you have a strong sense of support and community. There are more learning opportunities than I can count provided to you throughout your internship. From digital capabilities trainings to Nielsen analytics webinars to CPG disruption conferences – I learned something new everyday this past summer. The internship consists of a midpoint and final presentation in which you present your three projects to your cross-functional teams and brand leadership. It is a phenomenal opportunity to showcase what you've been working on and how it can drive the business. This positions requires excellent strategic, leadership, teamwork, analytical and problem solving skills. It demands a solutions oriented mindset that can drive innovation and brand growth. It is rigorous, but rewarding beyond measure. I'd highly recommend this internship to anyone with a desire to learn a tremendous amount, an interest in cultivating their leadership potential and an affinity for owning business strategy and results.

What I wish was different

Internship offers are extended in December, however, you do not find out your brand placement and location until April. Depending on where you are placed (Boston or Cincinnati) your experience can be slightly different. While there are 30+ brand interns in Cincinnati, there are only three in Boston, and as a result, you can feel isolated depending on your location.

Advice

Be a sponge. P&G has so much to offer that it's overwhelming at times. Ask brand directors to grab coffee, have lunch with your manager, talk to people from other functions. Constantly be curious and open to learning.

Packaging Engineering Intern

May 2018 • Boston, MA

What I liked

P&G gave me large, meaningful projects that were very challenging but accomplish-able. My opinions were valued and welcomed and I feel that I was able to contribute a lot to the company due to the way they ran their internship program.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more say in the job location/ role that I would be assigned.

Advice

Go in with an open mind. There is a lot that happens behind the scenes that makes the work very interesting. There is a lot of science behind razors, paper towels, etc. and there is a lot to learn.

Category Management Intern

May - August 2018 • Grand Rapids, MI

What I liked

I loved my experience. I got a range of experiences and got to use my business analytics, marketing, and sales skills. I also was able to complete a digital project, which gave me experience in the ecommerce space.

What I wish was different

I loved my summer so much, so there isn’t a lot I would want to change. Really the only thing is that I wish they had provided housing rather than just relocation assistance.

Advice

There’s a steep learning curve, so be open to asking for help or finding the resources to solve your problem.
