The ability to run my own financial practice while I am still a student. It allows me a significant competitive advantage.

What I wish was different

I hate to be bland, but nothing at all. I truly love what I do. I wish I started entering junior year!

Advice

To stay determined and see the end game. Many interns quit because they do not see immediate results. It’s a very tough profession with a high turnover rate, but very worth he grind.

Financial Representative

March 2018 - November 2019 • Milwaukee, WI

What I liked

I loved the environment, the people, and the work. I liked working with clients on a personal level.

What I wish was different

My schedule. I wish I could’ve made things work to turn my position into a full time career but due to personal reasons it wasn’t able to work.

Advice

This position takes a lot of effort but is well worth it. I was within the top 100 interns across the nation in only 3 months, and the most important thing I learned is how to balance work, school and family.

College Financial Representative

February - December 2019 • Woburn, MA

What I liked

It was a very hands on experience and I really learned a lot about retirement planning that is important information to know, whether you are planning a career in personal finance or not. As interns, we were really able to get a great idea of what the career would be like should it be something we choose to pursue.

What I wish was different

More availability from the senior advisors for help / guidance, although we understood it was hard because they all had full schedules as well.

Advice

If you want to get the most out of the opportunity, plan on giving it your all during the summer. If you don't really throw yourself into the role of a financial advisor you can miss out on great learning experiences and may not get a good idea of the full potential of this career path.

Financial Representative Intern

May 2019 • New Orleans, LA

What I liked

I liked being able to do the same job that the full time representatives. I was able to contact clients and discuss financial planning with them, and have meetings alongside the financial representatives.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been more resources to find new clients. We were on our own to find clients which was often times difficult.

Advice

The more effort you put into the internship the more you get out of it.
