Encouraged to pursue all interests with the company during my internship. Gained experience through observation and performance of typical sales engineer role.

Graphic Design Intern
June - August 2021 • Naperville, IL
What I liked
I loved all the information I learned throughout my time there along with the connections I made networking with many people throughout the company.
What I wish was different
I wish I would have done more creative projects, but there were many rules in place since Ecolab is such a huge company. But it was great experience working under certain brand standards.
Advice
I would definitely say to network and meet with people in different areas of the company while starting your internship. This just helps you learn to ask questions and learn from people with experience in your field. It also can help with your future if you ever look for a job with that company sometime in the future! You never know who can help you out someday once you get to know people!

Technical Sales Engineer Intern
May - August 2019 • New York City, NY
What I liked
Awesome experience all together. Great employer and coworkers. The job itself was very engineering-intensive and I never felt like I was asking a “stupid question.” It was an awesome learning experience.
What I wish was different
I wish it could have been longer and I could have more independent responsibilities.
Advice
Understand that as an intern, you’re expected to ask questions because you don’t have the same training or knowledge as full time employees! It’s okay to inquire.

What I liked
Opportunities to travel, take the lead on projects, and work with different types of people.
What I wish was different
More communication from my manager

Don't be afraid to take initiative, most of the "projects" assigned were not things that took up all of my time, and there was plenty opportunity to just find other things to work on to stay busy.

What I liked
Went to different locations everyday. Was able to complete my work remotely. This was my second summer with this internship position and I become much more familiar with the role. I had a lot of interaction with customers. Utilized my laboratory and technical skills but also learned sales techniques.
What I wish was different
I usually only interacted with my Personal Trainer/Sales Rep on a daily basis. A lot of driving depending on the day.
Advice
Requires initiative to put in time and effort into completing projects thoroughly and timely. Complete the technical lessons!

Technical Sales Intern
June - August 2018 • Texarkana, TX
What I liked
I liked the hands on aspect of the internship. I was working alongside the district manager many times and experienced different technical sales experiences. No two days were the same. There was a lot of interaction with the customer and strategic meetings that I got to be a part of.
What I wish was different
I wish I had more time at the beginning to understand the paper making process from a bird's eye view. I had a lot of questions throughout the process simply because I did not understand how one part of the process fit into the rest of the processes to create the whole.
Advice
My piece of advice is to research the paper process before you work at a paper mill customer site. Begin reading the online material before you start your internship so that you can begin ready with questions for your primary trainer.

Technical Sales Engineering Intern
June - September 2018 • Seattle, WA
What I liked
The job was very hands-on, I was on my feet all day and got to see a lot of the city of Seattle because I was going to a different site every day. I learned a lot about plumbing, heating and cooling systems, and water chemistry. The team that I worked under was full of great people, and the building engineers I met were great as well. The job was also something new every day, it was a wide variety of projects that I got to learn on my own.
What I wish was different
For me personally, I am looking for a career that involves a lot of design work. Most of this internship was maintenance of existing systems, which isn’t as much what I want to do for the rest of my life. Also, driving around to several sites every day would get exhausting for me after a longer time period than just a summer, but for a summer job it was totally fine.
Advice
if you go into it expecting to be on your feet a lot, working by yourself a lot, and meeting a lot of new people, with the knowledge that you will be doing a lot of troubleshooting for cooling tower systems, you will be aligned for success. Also, it helps if you enjoy driving because you’ll do a lot of it. The job is a wonderful and unique work experience, go for it! Oh, and be ready to stay organized because you will have an entire trunk full of testing equipment and it can be a lot to manage!
