Private Wealth Management Intern

June - August 2018 • Providence, RI

What I liked

It was very laid back since it was in the Providence office as opposed to a major city.

What I wish was different

Even though it was lower stress, I feel that an internship in a major branch of MS would have been somewhat more fulfilling. Lots of times, I was wondering what I would do that day and there was often downtime.

Advice

Don't be afraid to reach out! I was in an office that doesn't typically hire interns, but they were happy to give it a shot after I reached out to them and pitched the idea. Be ready to write your own curriculum if you take this approach though, they won't always have prescribed tasks to complete so you need to find creative ways to add value.

Leveraged Finance Intern

June - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I truly enjoyed completing the work product that I was responsible for. I had a great team within the Leveraged Finance Group, and felt that I truly got to learn about the debt product itself, deal structure, client/industry coverage, and how to identify opportunities for potential transactions.

What I wish was different

Nothing, I truly had the best summer experience of my life. I loved having real responsibility and being able to contribute to a team that valued the input of the interns. I have accepted the return offer and look forward to working in the Investment Banking Division for the summer of my junior year.

Advice

Attitude is everything. Go into the internship with an open mind and act like a sponge. Be positive, hard working, and willing to get the job done. Embrace new obstacles and challenges, as those are the most important learning opportunities.

Investment Management Intern

June - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

The people were so genuine, the culture was so welcoming and provided an excellent learning environment, and the work itself was interesting and exciting!

What I wish was different

Honestly it would have been great to have more people from my school work there to connect with as other interns had this opportunity.

Advice

Work hard and always make sure you go the extra step in everything that you do and with all of the projects you do. Also, making personal connections with the people you work with is such a great opportunity, so be sure to take the time to get to know your team on a personal level and your experience will be even better than just sailing through the internship and not getting to know anyone!
