Missouri State Highway Patrol

Student Intern

May - June 2019 • Jefferson City, MO

What I liked

This internship was the best decision I have ever made. I have many family members who work for the Missouri State Highway Patrol, which is how I found out about the internship. I had to go through an interview and background check and was then accepted to the program. I worked a total 135 hours, which included a large variety of experiences. I spent the greatest number of hours on ride-alongs with Troopers in various locations (including a boat ride-along on the Lake of the Ozarks). During these ride alongs, I was able to experience an arrest of a drunk driver, a drug seizure, and much more. Some of the other days were spent training with the SWAT Team, working in the evidence room, K9 drug interdiction on the interstate, and training with recruits who were working towards graduating the academy. Not only was this internship a lot of fun, but I also learned so much more about my Criminal Justice major and how to apply the information I have learned to real-life experiences.

What I wish was different
