UVM Extension, Vermont Migrant Education Program

Migrant Education Tutor

June - July 2021 • Bakersfield, CA

What I liked

I loved it. It involved driving and meeting grade school students and their parents. i tutored them and delivered learning material.

What I wish was different

I can't really think about many but one and that is that it was in the summer and it was extremely hot.

Advice

You really have to be self motivated to be able to complete your assigned tasks. It can be a lot of work however, it is doable if you manage your time.

Educator

June - July 2020 • Glenwood, AR

What I liked

I like working with kids. I like keeping them on track.

What I wish was different

No Covid, Covid made it tricky. We had to change the way we work with the kids.

Advice

If you could get a summer job doing summer school, take it. It keeps the kids from forgetting to much during their time off.

Migrant Education Program Intern

May - July 2018 • Lexington, KY

What I liked

Being able to work one-on-one with students in the classroom, and being surrounded by cultures different than my own.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been more organization in the program, but I understand that there are always new faces showing up which makes it difficult to organize.

Advice

To go into the experience with an open mind and to be ready to learn from students!

Migrant Education Intern

May - July 2018 • Richmond, KY

What I liked

I loved being able to work with Migrant students, tutoring and mentoring every day.

What I wish was different

Not a single thing. I loved every aspect.

Advice

You will be exhausted. It is an amazing experience that requires your all, especially during the KEYS camp, and you will feel completely drained, but every second is worth it.
