The Southern California Railroad Authority is a Joint Powers Authority created by five counties of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura. The Authority was created to plan, design, construct and operate a commuter rail network in the five-county area. The commuter rail service, known as Metrolink, is in its 27th year of operation. Metrolink operates over seven routes through a six-county, 512 route mile network which includes a section of northern San Diego County. Metrolink is the third largest commuter rail agency in the United States based on directional route miles and the eight largest based on annual ridership. Metrolink has fifty five (55) stations served by seven (7) lines. These lines include: Antelope Valley Line, Inland Empire Orange County Line, 91 Line, Orange County Line, Riverside Line, San Bernardino Line, and Ventura Line.
