The environment was great. MSK really takes care of their employees and there appeared to be a lot of potential for growth.

What I liked
The lab was very well equipped and my mentor showed me how to work very precisely. The people in the lab were all very friendly and insanely smart. My boss gave me a good deal of autonomy as well, so I enjoyed learning about the subject on my own and making suggestions for how to move the group forward.

Research Intern
June - August 2018 • New York City, NY
What I liked
I enjoyed the opportunity to interact with people who are currently working in the field that I am intersted in (translational research). I had the opportunity to speak with doctors and physician-scientists, which gave me a valuable perspective on the life of a professional with both an MD and PhD.
What I wish was different
I wish the program would have been able to provide housing for students traveling from far away. I had to find my own housing in New York City before I could even accept the offer of a research position.
Advice
Be independent and take advantage of everything that is around you. Don't miss out on enjoying NYC, and realize how many smart and well connected people are working in such a close proximity to the research center.

There was great structure to the program, a lot of other interns, and all the people at Sloan are amazing.
What I wish was different
The hours; I started at 7am each morning and ended at 315pm. I wish it was pushed back in the day a bit, but I think these hours are normal for hospital type settings.

Clinical Assistant Program (CAP)
May - August 2017 • New York City, NY
What I liked
Everything! I learned so much which only benefited me during the first semester of senior year. The exposure and experience was so unique. As we do get a ton of experience through our clinical rotations throughout the year, this really gave you the opportunity to spend a lot more time on a specific unit of interest, while learning about things you may have never learned throughout the year. MSK is also only oncology, something we do not have a specific clinical rotation for, so I gained a lot of new knowledge on this type of nursing.
What I wish was different
Nothing. It was an amazing experience, that I highly recommend!
Advice
My personal opinion is that getting an externship after your junior year is extremely important! Also try to apply and work somewhere that you could see yourself working after graduation. MSK has a very high return rate of the CAPs (Clinical Assistant Program). It is a very competitive program to be selected for, however, their goal is to train you (think of it as a 10 week interview) so that you will return after graduation. MSK also loves Villanova nurses and has a very large alumni network!

Lead Research Assistant
May 2017 • New York City, NY
What I liked
I love working at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center because it is closely aligned with the field I want to work in after graduation. It is also fulfilling to work in such a highly reputed cancer center. I also love my co-workers and supervisor and their lifestyles. Although they are indulged in the work and research they do, they still give a lot of time to their families and bring in their relatives and friends for events, conferences and talks. I love how everyone at MSK is treated as an equal and how so many different opportunities are available within the company apart from research.
What I wish was different
I don't think anything should be different personally.
Advice
I would advice interns to really build strong relationships with their supervisors and co-workers and along with that network within the company as much as possible.
