Firmware Engineer

What I liked

It was my first internship, which also means that it was my first time working as an engineer. I got to see first hand how work is done in the real world, and just how big the projects at companies are. I was able to realize that what you do in school is so small compared to what you do at a job.

What I wish was different

I wish that my group manager was able to spend more time working with me on my project. There would have been no way I would have been able to do anything completely on my own, because the project they had me assigned to was so vast that it would be hard to realize where to start. It was definitely a team effort at some points to get things going. There were plenty of things that were outlined from the beginning that I was supposed to work on but unfortunately, since my manager got pulled away with other projects, I wasn't able to finish everything.

Advice

For anyone who hasn't had an internship and is going to school for a Computer Science based major, be prepared to be in awe at what is done in the real world. What you do in school is so small and minuscule compared to what they at big corporations, so be ready to slowly learn and figure out what you're going to need to do to be productive and show everybody why they made the right choice in giving you that internship.
